Overview
eToro is a social investing platform that's been going since 2007. It's best known for CopyTrader, which lets you follow another investor and have their trades mirrored in your account. It suits beginners and buy-and-hold investors who like to see what others are doing, more than active forex traders. UK clients are with eToro (UK) Ltd under the FCA, EU clients with eToro (Europe) Ltd under CySEC, and US clients get stocks through eToro USA Securities, a FINRA member, with crypto through a FinCEN-registered entity. There are further licences in Seychelles, Abu Dhabi, Singapore and Gibraltar.
Accounts and costs
Most people open one personal account. The minimum first deposit depends on your country, ranging from about $10 to $200. ETFs are commission free, and stocks carry a $1 or $2 fee in some regions. CFDs are spread only, with EUR/USD from about 1 pip, which is wider than specialist forex brokers. Crypto costs 1% each way. Retail leverage is capped at 1:30, and US clients can't use leverage at all. There's a $10 monthly inactivity fee after a year of inactivity.
Platforms and markets
Everything runs on eToro's own web platform and app. There's no MT4, MT5 or TradingView. You get over 7,000 instruments: stocks, ETFs, crypto, commodities, indices and currencies, plus options and futures in some regions. Fractional shares start at £10. The free demo gives you $100,000 in virtual money to practise with.
Money in and out
You can deposit by card, bank transfer, PayPal, Skrill, Neteller and local options like iDEAL, or through eToro Money. Withdrawals from the USD account cost $5 each, and converting from other currencies adds a fee. GBP and EUR local currency accounts avoid both when you withdraw in the same currency.

What traders say
Scores from the sites traders use, and our summary of what they're saying, checked 6 October 2026.
eToro scores well where its biggest user base reviews it and badly on the smaller sites. It holds 4.1 on Trustpilot from about 31,900 reviews, against 1.4 on Sitejabber from about 120 and 1.6 on SmartCustomer from about 115. The small sites lean heavily toward complaints, and many of their reviews promote fund recovery services, so they say more about who seeks them out than about the average user. Forex Peace Army and Myfxbook have long-running pages, mostly from forex traders and mostly critical.
What traders like

Copy trading and the community. Long-time users on Reddit value CopyTrader, the social feed and the demo account.
Years without problems. Several Reddit users describe five to ten years on the platform with smooth deposits and no issues.
Common complaints
Slow or blocked withdrawals. Reddit threads, Forex Peace Army and Trustpilot carry many accounts of withdrawals taking weeks, being held for document checks, or failing for certain currencies and crypto destinations.
Fees and spreads. Some say spreads, conversion fees and withdrawal fees are high, and several Reddit users call it unsuited to day trading.
Platform stability. Forex Peace Army and Myfxbook reviewers complain of outages, being unable to open or close trades at the market open, and stops filling well past their level.
Doubts about the Trustpilot score. A few Reddit users question how eToro holds over 4 on Trustpilot, and one says an honest negative review was flagged as not genuine until they pushed back.
